Velo vs ZYN: which is stronger in the UK? 17mg vs 16.5mg
Velo tops out at 17 mg a pouch, ZYN at 16.5 mg, on each brand's UK page (re-read 3 Oct 2026). Every tier side by side, the dots, and what retailers print.
Velo is stronger than ZYN in the UK, but only just. On each brand’s own UK pages, Velo’s strongest range, Intense, reaches 17 mg of nicotine per pouch, and ZYN’s strongest tier, Max, is 16.5 mg. That is a 0.5 mg gap in stated content per pouch, not the several-milligram gap some retailer comparisons print.
Updated 3 October 2026: New title and summary; level-by-level, dots, pouch size and maker sections; Northerner retailer row; key points; brand pages re-read; two FAQs added.
Key points:
- Strongest Velo: Intense, up to 17 mg per pouch, slim only.
- Strongest ZYN: Max, 16.5 mg per pouch, in the Regular (Slim) size.
- Lowest: ZYN’s Mini Low is 3 mg (its shop menu also lists 1.5 mg); Velo’s lowest listed pouch is 4 mg.
This desk read ZYN’s UK strengths page, Velo’s UK strength guide and three ranking retailer comparisons on 23 September 2026, and recorded the figures as printed. This is a reference comparison, not a news item: it will hold for as long as the two brands’ pages do.
On 3 October 2026 this desk re-read both brand pages. ZYN’s, still dated 27/07/2025, still names Max at 16.5 mg as its top tier, and Velo’s guide still gives Intense as 14 to 17 mg.
Velo vs ZYN: which is stronger, tier by tier
The ZYN rows come from the brand’s UK strengths page, dated 27/07/2025, which carries Philip Morris International’s name. The Velo rows come from its UK strength guide, which says Velo strength “is measured in nicotine mg per pouch”.
Velo vs ZYN at each strength level
At the low end ZYN goes lower: its menu’s Low tier lists 1.5 mg, while Velo’s Mellow starts at 4 mg. In the middle, Velo’s Original range sits higher than ZYN’s Medium cans, though ZYN’s 9 mg falls inside Velo’s 8 to 11 mg span. At the top, ZYN’s Strong tier runs to 16.5 mg and Velo’s Intense to 17 mg. This pairing uses ZYN’s shop menu tiers; its chart files 9 mg as Strong instead, as the next section notes.
How does each brand label strength?
ZYN uses words and a four-dot scale. Its page says the level is shown on every can by the mg number and by filled dots: a 6 mg Mini shows 2 of 4 dots and is Medium, an 11 mg Regular shows 4 of 4 and is X-Strong. The same page disagrees with itself. The chart calls 9 mg Strong, while the shop menu files 9 mg under Medium and 11 mg under Strong. The menu also lists a 1.5 mg range the chart does not; no 1.5 mg product page was read, so this record does not say one is on sale.
Velo uses three range names and dots. Its guide maps only the Mellow dots, 4 and 6 mg, as this site set out when it decoded the Velo dot scale. The guide gives Original as 8 to 11 mg, yet its menu also files a 6 mg can under Original.
What do the dots on ZYN and Velo cans mean?
ZYN’s page gives two worked examples on its four-dot scale: a 6 mg Mini shows 2 of 4 dots and is Medium, and an 11 mg Regular shows 4 of 4 dots and is X-Strong. As re-read on 3 October 2026, it gives no milligram figure for one or three dots, so this record does not assign one. Velo’s guide maps dots only for Mellow: one dot is 4 mg, two dots are 6 mg. Velo’s higher dot counts are covered in the dot-scale post linked above.
Pouch size: Mini and Slim
ZYN’s UK page says its pouches come in Mini and Regular (Slim) sizes. Its Mini cans carry 3 and 6 mg; the Regular strengths run from 9 mg up to Max at 16.5 mg. Velo’s guide says Mellow comes only in Mini cans, while Original and Intense are slim. At both brands the strongest pouches are the slim ones, and the Mini cans named on both pages stop at 6 mg. This site compares the two formats in its review of slim and regular pouch formats.
Northerner, a UK retailer whose comparison this desk read on 3 October 2026, says Velo cans hold 15 (Mini) or 20 (Slim) pouches and ZYN cans 10, 20 or 21, depending on the product.
Who makes Velo and ZYN?
ZYN’s UK strengths page carries Philip Morris International’s name. Roon, a US caffeine-pouch seller whose Velo and ZYN comparison this desk read on 3 October 2026, says ZYN is manufactured by Swedish Match, a subsidiary of Philip Morris International, and that Velo comes from British American Tobacco (BAT). Snus World also named BAT as Velo’s maker when read on 23 September 2026. The text of Velo’s UK strength guide, as re-read on 3 October 2026, does not say who owns the brand; BAT’s name appears on that page only in a related-article title about a BAT and McLaren partnership, so the BAT attribution here rests on those two third-party pages.
Why do retailer comparisons disagree?
In the text this desk read, none of the three ranking pages cites either brand’s own strength page. Vape Superstore, dated 16 February 2026, puts ZYN at 3 mg rising to “around 9-11 mg” and Velo at 4 to 17 mg. Snus World, dated 13 March 2026, prints Velo at 4 to 20 mg and ZYN at 3 to 12.5 mg, and names BAT as Velo’s maker. Nic Pouch UK gives no milligram figure in the text read, saying only that Velo’s MAX sits slightly above ZYN. ZYN’s 16.5 mg Max appears in none of the three as read. The same pattern turned up when this site compared Velo and Nordic Spirit.
A fourth comparison, from UK retailer Northerner, read on 3 October 2026, does print the brands’ own tops: ZYN from 1.5 mg to 16.5 mg and Velo from 4 mg to 17 mg, though the text read cites no source for either range.
Is ZYN stronger than VELO?
Not at the top, on the brands’ own UK pages. ZYN’s strongest stated tier is Max at 16.5 mg per pouch; Velo’s Intense range runs from 14 to 17 mg. Velo’s top figure is 0.5 mg higher. At the bottom the order flips: ZYN’s Mini Low is 3 mg, and Velo’s lowest listed pouch is 4 mg.
What is the strongest ZYN in the UK?
ZYN’s UK strengths page names Max, at 16.5 mg per pouch, in the Regular (Slim) size, above XX-Strong at 13.5 mg. The site’s shop menu lists 16.5 mg as its top figure too. None of the pages read on 23 September 2026 lists a stronger ZYN pouch for the UK.
What mg is the strongest VELO?
17 mg per pouch. Velo’s UK strength guide describes its Intense range as 14 to 17 mg, slim format only, and its strengths menu lists 17 mg Slim cans marked for experienced users only. The 20 mg figure one retailer prints for Velo does not appear in the brand’s guide as read on 23 September 2026.
What mg is a 2 dot ZYN?
The one two-dot example on ZYN’s UK strengths page is 6 mg: it says a 6 mg ZYN Mini shows 2 of 4 dots and is a Medium strength. Its other example, an 11 mg Regular, shows 4 of 4 dots and is X-Strong. The page as re-read on 3 October 2026 gives no milligram figure for one or three dots.
What is Velo?
Velo is a nicotine pouch brand. Its UK strength guide lists three ranges, measured in mg of nicotine per pouch: Mellow at 4 to 6 mg in Mini cans, Original at 8 to 11 mg and Intense at 14 to 17 mg, both slim. Roon, a US caffeine-pouch seller whose comparison this desk read on 3 October 2026, names British American Tobacco as its maker.
Pros and cons
Verdict
A stated figure describes what is in the pouch, not what reaches the user; they are two separate numbers. Both brands’ pouches contain nicotine, and nicotine is an addictive chemical. From 29 October 2026 it will be an offence to sell nicotine products to anyone under 18, per the Department of Health and Social Care’s guidance on selling vaping and nicotine products. This record is for adults of 18 and over who use nicotine; it recommends no strength and calls neither pouch safe.
